
You know we’re fans of Shabba round here, and this week Dancehall Emperor hit the news on his return to Jamaica from NYC, after being gone but not forgotten for nearly 10 years. Bombarded by fans as he hit the island to perform at Sumfest for the 50th anniversary celebrations, he told interviewers why he’d been away so long, reiterating some of the points made in ‘Respect’ and ‘None A Dem’: ‘As much as you play Elephant Man, play Jah Thomas’.
Quality video footage of last night’s Sumfest performance are yet to appear, but it was surely a crazy show – tons of tunes, two encores, duets with Cherine Anderson, ripping of shirts, emotional speeches and an award ceremony.
