It was great to see Fashion records re-releasing some of their classic LP’s this year, but we noticed one conspicuous absence from the list.
The “From JA To UK MC Clash” records were some of the best clash LPs around, exhibiting the style of some of the UK’s biggest DJs. And while the previous volumes featuring Asher Senator vs. Johnny Ringo and Papa San vs. Tippa Irie respectively were tip-top, my personal fave is volume 3, it is an absolute goldmine of 24 carat badness.
Featuring Top Cat and Poison Chang, two artists who would go on to have a massive influence on the current crop of UK dancehall talent (and in Poison Changs case a direct influence, being the father of UK MC Stylo G) the premise is simple, back to back tunes in a battle for dancehall supremacy.
Many of the cuts featured here went on to be better known for their Jungle remixes, but these are the definitive versions.
Check out a selection of tracks from the LP below, who do you think won?
Poison Chang – Love The Woman
Top Cat – Sess A Wey Yu Want
Poison Chang – Shot Fe Bus
Top Cat – Stamina

Tough, but I’d give this one to Top Cat. Want this LP badly!
You and me both…
